Noted for the innovative, artistic programs they present, the choir has been invited to perform for numerous music conferences, including the Eastern Division ACDA, Eastern Division MENC, PMEA, AGO and Pennsylvania ACDA conferences. The choir frequently collaborates with other artists. This season, the choir invited Philadelphia based Atzilut to join them in a concert for Peace. In 2007, the choir was honored to be part of the Philadelphia premiere performance of John Adams' On the Transmigration of Souls, presented by the Mendelssohn Club of Philadelphia (Alan Harler, director). The choir has performed with the Allentown Symphony Orchestra, has sung in Carnegie Hall, New York City and performs extensively throughout the Delaware Valley Region. It was a featured ensemble performing for Liberty In Motion, the celebration surrounding the moving of the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia in October 2003. Tours have taken the choir to England, Oregon, Brooklyn, Canada, Disneyworld, Ohio, and twice to Hawaii for the Pacific Rim Children's Choral Festival under the direction of Henry Leck. The concert choir embarked on its first solo tour when it traveled to Italy in July 2009, which included participation in Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican. Nick Page was the choir's inaugural composer in residence in 2002 when he wrote "There Something Sings" for the choir's 10th Anniversary. The 2004-05 guest artist was master hammer dulcimer player/composer Malcolm Dalglish, who was in residency in February 2005. Mr. Dalglish composed the piece "Woods" for Bel Canto in addition to performing "Hymnody of Earth" with the choir. Composer Stephen Hatfield visited the choir in 2006, presenting workshops to several other area children's choirs in a "mini" festival. In April 2004, the choir launched its first Choral Festival, conducted by Mrs. Hirokawa, which place in Allentown, PA, and continues biannually. |
